A project to build a sensory garden at a ward at the Cavell Centre in Peterborough is well underway - thanks to the kindness of airmen from RAF Wittering.

The special garden is being built for patients at Oak 1 following a £300 donation from members of the RAF Wittering motorcycle club earlier this year.

After handing over cheque, members of the group vowed to return to the Cavell Centre to help with the construction work - and now Cpl Tim McGivern and SAC(T) Martin Pawlak, fulfilled that pledge.

Cpl McGivern said: "We were delighted to be back at Oak 1 to help with the building work. The motorcycle club raises money for just this kind of scheme

"We hope it will be a real benefit to patients and staff."

Occupational therapist David Williamson, who is leading the project to build the sensory garden, said: "The guys were great. They turned up, asked what needed to be done and got on with it straightaway.

"They cleared a lot of the old garden, dug new beds and helped put in vibrant new plants.

"The money the club donated to us, and the hard work of Tim and Martin, have been vital in helping building the garden. I can't thank them enough."

David is seeking further donations to help complete the sensory garden at Oak 1, a 16-bed ward for women experiencing acute mental health problems.
