Rowena Harvey, the professional lead for health visiting at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded a prestigious honour.

Rowena (pictured) has been made a Fellow of the Institute of Health Visiting. She was among 150 health visitors from across the country who travelled to London on 11 March to receive their fellowships.

The Institute of Health Visiting set up its fellowship scheme in a bid to develop a network of expert health visitors across England.

To become a Fellow, the Institute states it is looking for "health visitors who are delivering excellence in practice and have made a real difference to the health outcomes of children and their families”.

Dr Cheryll Adams, Director of the Institute of Visiting, said: “Our Fellows are already really strengthening leadership in the health visiting profession and will now help develop the next generation of health visitors.”

Rowena, who is based at the City Health Clinic, Wellington Street, Peterborough, said: “I am delighted to have received to have received this honour. To have been recognised in this way is truly humbling. I get so much satisfaction out of my job and this will only serve to encourage me to continue to help make a difference to the lives of children and their families.”

As well as CPFT, Rowena also works for Health Education East of England as locality lead for the health visiting programme. She is part of a team supporting the development of health visiting across the East of England.

Each fellow needed to demonstrate excellence in practice and also their leadership potential. They had to submit three testimonials, one from a family, one from a peer and one from a senior manager. Since being accepted, all Fellows have undertaken a special four-day leadership development programme before the conferment ceremony.
