Concert donations hit the right note

Four organisations benefit from CPFT show

Concert donations hit the right note
11 November 2015

Money raised by a special concert organised by CPFT consultant psychiatrist Dr Ben Underwood has been handed over to four organisations.

The concert of wind music held earlier this year in Cambridge raised £1,200.

Now three organisations: Mind In Cambridgeshire, Alzheimer's Research UK, the Friends of Fulbourn, together with CPFT's Charitable Trust, have each received £300.

Dr Underwood (right), a keen trombonist who performed at the concert, said: "I am delighted that we can finally donate the funds that were raised to the organisations.

"It was a very good evening and I'd like to thank everyone that helped organise the event and all those performed on the night."

The event took place Emmanuel United Reformed Church last April and included performances from CSD Brass, Prime Brass and the Huntingdonshire Concert Band. They were joined on stage by internationally acclaimed soloist, Duncan Wilson.

CPFT chief executive Aidan Thomas, who attended the presentation at the Windsor Research Unit, Fulbourn, said: "I am delighted to accept the donation on behalf of CPFT's Charitable Trust and Ben, his colleagues, and his friends deserve special praise for putting on the concert which has benefited not just our charity but Mind In Cambridgeshire, Alzheimer's Research UK, and Friends of Fulbourn Hospital."

Dr Underwood is currently co-ordinating dementia research trials involving more than 200 from across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Conducted by experts from Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust and Cambridge University, the trials, if successful, could lead to major breakthroughs in the understanding, prevention and treatment of dementia within five years.
