CPFT psychiatrist Dr Muzaffer Kaser has received the Best Trainee Presentation Prize at the Bedfordshire Center for Mental Health Research and the University of Cambridge event on 20-22 September.

The biennial conference featured a variety of meetings about major advancements in the research and treatment of psychiatric conditions, as well as presentations by medical and PhD trainees from across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India and Canada.

Dr Kaser (far left) led an investigation of the potential of modafinil to help people recovering from depression improve cognitive functions such as concentration, memory and attention. Almost all patients with depression experience problems in these areas.

His results showed improvements in episodic and working memory following modafinil administration, suggesting that the drug may aid patients who suffer with unrelenting cognitive problems.

Dr Muzaffer Kaser said: “I am delighted to receive the best trainee presentation prize. The conference was a great opportunity for me to share my work with many colleagues from all around the world. It is great to see that my research was recognised. As an early career clinical researcher, such prizes are motivating to produce more quality work. Thanks to organisers and the judges for their appreciation.”

Professor Christos Pantelis of the University of Melbourne presented the prize to Dr Muzaffer Kaser, who is also NIHR Clinical Lecturer in General Adult Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge.
