A group of colleagues from Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust are preparing for a charity kayaking adventure.

The six-strong team are set to paddle a 20-mile stretch of the River Cam in a bid to raise more than £1,000 for CPFT’s Recovery College East.

Alec Grimshaw, senior mental health practitioner at CPFT, said: “We often go out as group in our kayaks just to socialise. But this time we thought we’d set ourselves a real challenge and raise money for a great cause.

“We’re hoping it’s going to be fun and a bit of adventure, and the money can be used by Recovery College East to develop more courses for young people.”

The team will take to the water on Saturday, 25 July from outside The Cutter Inn in Ely and travel to the Millpond in Cambridge.

Alec will be joined by Helen Sparrow and John Tatler who all work for the Trust’s Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMH) team. CAMH provides support and treatment for young people with mental health conditions, and their families.

They will be accompanied by Simon Themba, Craig Galbraith and Paul Smith from CPFT’s learning and development team.

Recovery College East was launched in 2012 and has two sites at Fulbourn, Cambridge and at the Gloucester Centre, Peterborough. It offers a wide variety of courses to help people develop new skills or increase their understanding of mental health challenges and recovery.
